Artistic Vision
Crafted by India's Greatest Sculptor
The statue was designed by Padma Bhushan recipient sculptor Ram V. Sutar, who has created over 50 colossal monuments in his career. To capture the exact likeness of Sardar Patel, Sutar studied over 2,000 historic photographs and consulted extensively with historians and family members. The final expression depicts a graceful, dignified, and determined leader walking forward with his hands by his side.
3D Digital Mapping
LIDAR scanning of Sutar's 30-foot clay model was scaled mathematically to 182 meters without loss of facial accuracy.
International Collaboration
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) built the structure while 100+ Chinese artisans crafted the bronze panels in collaboration with Indian engineers.

2013
Foundation Stone Laid
Narendra Modi (then CM of Gujarat) laid the foundation stone on October 31, 2013 — the 138th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
2014–15
The Loha Campaign
A nationwide campaign collected 5,000+ tonnes of iron implements donated by over 500,000 farmers across India, symbolizing national unity.
2015–17
Core Column Construction
Two massive reinforced concrete cores rising 150m were constructed as the primary load-bearing spine of the colossus.
2017–18
Bronze Cladding Completed
Steel space frame erected, followed by 553 bronze panels (1,850 tonnes) manufactured by Chinese foundries and installed by Indian engineers.

Eco-Conservation Initiative
Greening the Narmada Valley
The SOU project is surrounded by a massive green zone. Over 500,000 trees have been planted in the surrounding Narmada valley to restore local flora. Solar power generation grids and rainwater harvesting systems power over 60% of the lighting and landscaping needs of the entire Ekta Nagar smart city.
